This very special site played an important role during the erection of the Atlantic Wall (coastal defense plan put in place by the Germans during the Second World War). Beyond the bunkers, the remains of which can still be found, the bay of Audierne constituted an inexhaustible source of sand and stone necessary for the construction of German defensive paraphernalia. So, at the end of 1941, they installed a huge crusher to prepare the pebbles collected on site to become future blockhouses. A railway line was built for the occasion, and allowed six daily trains to repatriate the crushed pebbles to Port-l’Abbé then Quimper.
