Raised at the end of the 15th century, the castle was re-drilled in the 17th century. It looks like a long building flanked at the four corners by circular towers. A median precedes it to the east. Dry ditches on a square plan surround it. The entrance gate has two Louis XIII pillars, brick and stone in alternating courses. Each end of this gate is marked with square entrance pavilions.££In 1562, Louis de Bourbon, Prince of Condé, was held prisoner there by the Duke of Guise after the Battle of Dreux. Catherine de Medici and the members of the king's government came to visit the prisoner to try to negotiate peace, obtaining from this prince that he had the Huguenots lay down their arms. Superb route on the banks of the Eure!!! A small “trick-ass” section but completely acceptable :)

This discovery began with the old castle of Gougnault from 1300 to 1413 then the rebirth under Louis XIV and the creation of the Eure canal which crossed the park, followed by an 18th and 19th. "In 1780, four-year-old Anne Marie Reviers de Mauny planted a cedar in a kindergarten and the tree still stands in the town hall park" underlined Jacques Charron, the president of the association. The trail along the banks of the Eure takes you from Saint-Prest to Chartres through landscapes as varied as each other. You pedal between washhouses and wooded areas. The ideal place to stroll, take the time and finally... let go.

Very pleasant and almost surprising, to find in the immediate vicinity of Chartres, such a preserved and peaceful access road.

Very beautiful castle not directly visible from the road and therefore possibility of missing it.
