27.05.25: Most of the huts up there looked deserted and run-down. Maybe they get busier during peak season, but at the end of May, it was more of a "lost place."

The 152-meter-long bridge was built in 1893 and was in use until 1979. Restoration work began at the end of 2021 and lasted over 20 months. On December 22, 2023, the bridge was fully reopened to pedestrians and cyclists after the renovation was completed. The extensive restoration included, among other things, the replacement of the wooden pavement, the renewal of the joints of the stone walls, the complete replacement of the support cables, the removal of asbestos and the renewal of the metal bridge deck.

You need to be in good shape on these tours. There are often steep climbs and downhills.

You need good fitness for this climb. If you want to continue hiking from the gîte for another 1.5 hours to the Trou de fer, you should start early. I can only advise against the descent back to Hell Bourg in the dark.

A few meters from the Gîte de Bélouve is this superb panorama of the Cirque de Salazie. Entirely listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, this circus is the most exposed to the rain, which makes it the most luxuriant of the three circuses on the island.
