The 152-meter-long bridge was built in 1893 and was in use until 1979. Restoration work began at the end of 2021 and lasted over 20 months. On December 22, 2023, the bridge was fully reopened to pedestrians and cyclists after the renovation was completed. The extensive restoration included, among other things, the replacement of the wooden pavement, the renewal of the joints of the stone walls, the complete replacement of the support cables, the removal of asbestos and the renewal of the metal bridge deck.

From midday onwards, you can admire how the clouds flow over the ridge into the valley.

Superb view of the islet and the valley of Grand Bassin. The climate of the islet which is located at the foot of the ramparts of Cilaos once made it possible to grow fruit and vegetables all year round. The freight elevator, still present, was built in 1985 to transport goods. From now on, the few remaining villagers have turned to tourist reception.
