Since time immemorial, it seems that the valley of Bellefontaine has sheltered this small sanctuary at the head of which flowed the “beautiful fountain” whose “waters are faithful”, as the motto of the Abbey reminds us… This chapel dedicated to the Virgin Mary experienced the dark hours of the Revolution and the War of Vendée. At the foot of Chemin de Gasselin is one of the last existing hydraulic rams in France. Built by the Le Mans workshops in the 19th century, it was restored by a heritage preservation association. This ram made it possible to supply running water to the Château de la Morinière located a few hundred meters further on the hill. The Chemin des Canons is a narrow sunken path which was used by Republican soldiers during the Vendée wars at the end of the 18th century. You can follow the Andrezé trail to Bellefontaine Abbey, a beautiful Cistercian monastery founded in 1152. Along the way, you will cross the Beuvron on a wooden bridge, admire the Château de la Morinière and discover a rare hydraulic ram which supplied the castle with water.

Bellefontaine Abbey is a Cistercian monastery founded in 1120. You can admire the ancient architecture and the statue of the Virgin Mary donated by Pope Clement V. You can also explore the surrounding countryside, where you will find orchards, farms and woods. The abbey has a guest house where you can stay for a few days and join the monks in their prayer and work. You can also buy some of their products, such as honey, cheese and books3. Bellefontaine Abbey is a place of serenity and beauty that will inspire you and refresh your soul.
