The flat southern part of the Plateau de Valensole is the most important lavender growing area in Provence. It is bordered by the Durance, Verdon and Asse rivers. In June and July, the area between Puimoisson and St-Jurs is a sea of purple. Valensole, the center of the plateau, is famous for its lavender honey.

The Jean Giono center is entirely devoted to the work and life of the famous Provençal writer native of Manosque. You can also visit his birthplace called Maison Le Paraïs by reservation. It is located in a dead end and is complementary to the Jean Giono center. The Raffin hotel that you see in front of you is a superb 18th century Provençal building that belonged to Monsieur de Raffin, an eminent figure from Manosque. The center is, except on public holidays, open from Tuesday to Saturday.

The suspension bridge over the Durance, which dates from 1939, was deconstructed and replaced by a new point built a few meters away. This project will last almost four years. On the side you find the remains of the old bridge with its colorful pillars.
