Small village on the southern slope of the Lure mountain

Small village located just before starting the beautiful Lure road on the south side.

The Col d'Espinouse peaks at 838m and has two very different sides. From Bras d'Asse, more than 10 km of climbing awaits you and be careful not to be fooled by its low average percentage because this pass has many passages at more than 7%, especially towards the end with the last 700 meters at 8% and above all this slope is very exposed to the wind which often blows very strongly. On the other side from the Chaffaut road the climb is around 3-4 km shorter, is not exposed to the wind but has a steep and regular gradient (6-7% on average and passages at 11%).

Nestled at an altitude of 711m at the foot of the Montagne de Lure, classified among the "Cities and villages of character", this small town was built around an abbey founded in the 11th century. All that remains of this abbey now is the cloister and an elegant Romanesque church with a slate roof and richly endowed furniture for such a small village. From the 16th to the 19th century, Cruis was an important center for peddlers and druggists whose activity consisted of traveling the mountains to pick aromatic or medicinal plants and resell them on the market. Thanks to this rich past, the village has retained a certain cachet offering a network of small flowery streets, squares with fountains or washhouses, and old houses with stone facades and roofs in harmonious colors.

Although this town is attached to the neighboring village of Bras d'Asse, it is a very lively place next to beautiful country roads leading to Brunet and a nice little market on Mondays
