The weir (for river regulation and power generation) and the lock at Sebbenhausen (for the shipping route that is four kilometers shorter) were put into operation 65 years ago after a construction period of three years (1953 to 1956). The Weser Cycle Path shortcut on the shipping canal saves about 10 km compared to the more beautiful route via the Weser ferry in Schwefingen, Rohrsen and Drakenburg.

During my lock visit, the lock walls were cleaned. For me it was interesting to see what effort is made here. If you are interested in the technology of a lock, please read the information boards (photos).
