Great route for the E-Mountain bike

La Tour d'Auvergne was once an impregnable fortress belonging to the house of La Tour d'Auvergne and whose castle was built on an ancient Roman tower. The castle has since given way to a peaceful village built on an ancient basalt flow, whose organs can be seen near the church. The Tour d'Auvergne is also under the protection of Notre-Dame de Natzy which overlooks the surrounding area a short distance from the village.

These two impressive towers are what remains of a 12th century castle. From there, you enjoy a panoramic view of the Limousin and Auvergne regions. You can also discover the restoration work and the history of the castle on the site which is open from March to October.

A village that definitely bears its name. We hear the incessant shots coming from a nearby military base, which resonate and disturb the almost disturbing calm of the place. The church under renovation is a good place for a siesta, a ravito, and why not a bivouac. Don't expect to be able to buy food there, there is nothing for several miles around.

La Tour-d'Auvergne is a very old village which finds its foundations on a basalt peak, the vestige of a volcanic flow from the great volcano that was the Sancy massif. In the town you can admire the basalt columns to the left of the church. These are geological formations that result from the solidification of a basaltic flow shortly after its emission, which attests to the proximity of the volcanic crater.
