Started around 1175 (twelve years after Notre-Dame de Paris), the construction of the Saint-Étienne cathedral ended in 1540. Like many other cathedrals of the Middle Ages, the monument remains unfinished, as evidenced by its deeply asymmetrical facade and equipped with a temporary bell tower, which has become permanent over the centuries. The cathedral of Meaux is not large, it is only 85 meters long (against 130 m in Paris and 145 m in Amiens).
