A massive, stone-built base supports the "Croix de Chirole," a symbol commemorating the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus Christ, crowning the summit plateau. The two wooden beams of this small sacred monument clearly show the effects of wind and weather. The large body of the crucified Christ, however, whose light color clearly stands out against the background of the dark beams, appears to have been relatively recently restored or perhaps even renewed.

Located at an altitude of 1,246 meters, this place offers a wide panorama. At the top of the pyramid sits a Virgin. This construction is a Napoleonic monument. The last restoration dates from 1989 at the initiative of the “Napoleonian International Friendships” association. A panel recalls the history of the monument at the foot of it.

The Gimel peat bog is located at an altitude of 1,200 meters. It is one of the sources of the Dunerette. The marsh forms a bulge and contains a mosaic of plant groups. It has the particularity of having never been exploited for its peat.

Crêt de Chaussître is located at the southern end of Pilat. It offers a beautiful panorama of the Monts du Velay, Mont Mezenc, the Yssingeaux juices and the high plateaus of Forez.

From its 915 meters, you can see through three valleys, the central massif and the Alps. Stunning panoramas.

By mountain bike, the northern accesses are difficult, large stones, very technical. Access by chemin du Teil easier but steep and partly paved. My favorite access is through the east in the woods from Prélager (before arriving at the picnic area, take the small grassy path on the left which descends slightly)
