8월 2, 2025, Col de la Charbonnière
Magnificent pass to climb from different slopes (Breitenbach, Steige, Vallée de la Bruche, Andlau). It is also a crossing point towards the Champ du feu, the Hohwald, the Mont Ste Odile.

7월 9, 2025, Belle route secondaire
The route is completely paved and essentially car-free, as signs prohibit it. Nevertheless, someone occasionally drives along here. The route is very pleasant and beautiful, tucked away in the forest.

7월 9, 2025, 20% Gradient Warning Sign
The climb is on the other side of the hill. The sign indicates a decline. The climb or decline is 10 meters long, but probably less. Funny sign, otherwise a normal bike path.

Nice, quiet cycle path, a good alternative to the country road, but you have to accept a few more meters of elevation.

The tour from Dambach la ville is not too long or too difficult, and can be walked or run. However, I recommend appropriate footwear (hiking shoes, trail running shoes), as there are a few places on the descent, for which you can choose from two options, that require surefootedness. From the castle ruins you have a wonderful view over the Rhine plain to the Black Forest.

Video in German language: https://youtu.be/SE8Fn2OXpCY At the beginning of the 16th century, the Holy Roman Empire experienced a wave of local revolts (the Bundschuhe: "laced shoes", a symbol chosen in opposition to the lordly spurred boot), fomented by the peasantry against the regime. feudal. From June 1524, these sporadic revolts took on the magnitude of a real general war which broke out throughout the south, west and center of the Empire. The Peasants' War or "Russians' War" lasted until May 15, 1525, the date of the death of the leader and preacher Thomas Müntzer, at the Battle of Frankenhausen; although in reality, uprisings were recorded in the Austrian Alps until 1526. It is here, at the foot of the Ramstein and Ortenbourg castles, on these meadows surrounded by vineyards, that the Battle of Scherwiller took place on the evening of May 20, 1525. Nearly 35,000 men faced off in a pitched battle without pity between the Franco-Lorraine troops and the Alsatian militias of the Bundschuh. After several hours of combat, the army of Duke Antoine de Lorraine was once again victorious. There were five hundred killed (estimated figure) in the Franco-Ducal expeditionary force, and at least four thousand in the coalition of fifteen to twenty thousand peasant insurgents present. A local legend says that the bones of the victims of the repression of Duke Antoine de Lorraine during the Rustauds revolt are in the ossuary of the Saint-Sébastien chapel in Dambach: Above the gate which today prevents access to the interior of the ossuary is a sandstone plaque bearing a quote which leaves any visitor wondering: “Was Ihr seid, sind wir gewesen - Was wir sind, werdet ihr werden What you are, we were - What we are, you will become”

https://youtu.be/jTaovQDf2w8 Châtenois, ideally located on the Wine Route, is a fortified city with a unique charm. Two enclosures surround the town, dating from the 13th and 15th centuries. Ramparts staged each year during the traditional “Fête des Remparts” in June: https://youtu.be/rzwLz2KUFqM?si=l3Y3tdG3e2hQDlfi These places are listed as Historic Monuments thanks in particular to the Witches' Tower, a 15th century Gothic tower gate located on the second enclosure; and the 18th century St Georges Church. Push open the door of the latter where you will discover one of the masterpieces of the organ builder Silbermann. From the church, walk on the interpretive trail along the ramparts then go down towards the heart of the town. Get lost in the streets and let yourself be seduced by the typical Alsatian houses where geraniums bloom on the balconies every summer. You can also explore the surrounding cycle paths during the annual Slow Up in June: https://www.slowup-alsace.fr/ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RVA-ytNFQmw End your walk with a visit to the cellars and stop at one of the town's good restaurants which offer different local specialties such as tarte flambée. Shaded forest road perfect for crossing the Villé valley avoiding the very busy road. Arriving in Thanvillé, we take a cycle lane along the road to Villé.
