Dol-de-Bretagne is a historic town founded as a bishopric in the 5th or 6th century under the influence of Saint Samson of Dol. The town is known for its well-preserved medieval architecture, including the Saint-Samson Cathedral, the Musée de la Trésorerie, and the Maison des Petits Palets. The surrounding area also features the Menhir du Champ-Dolent, a megalith dating back to the Neolithic period that is over 4,000 years old. Markets, local festivals, and small shops enliven town life, and despite its touristic significance, the town remains relatively quiet and manageable, an ideal place to experience history, culture, and Breton flair.

There is no pastry shop here! Looks like the old shop is not a house.

The city besides its medieval past shelters the "cathedraloscope", a very interesting museum where you will learn absolutely everything about the builders of cathedrals. For more information on this exciting interpretation center, visit their website: http://cathedraloscope.com/

Located at the gates of Brittany, the ancient episcopal city of Dol, labeled "Small city of character", offers visitors its architectural treasures. In addition to the cathedral, it is also the residences of Grande-Rue-des-Stuarts that will captivate you. Look up to admire the porch and pillared houses. Dating from the 12th century, the Maison des Petits Palets is one of the oldest in Brittany! Source: https://www.tourismebretagne.com

When Samson (495-565), a Welsh monk, came to Brittany at the beginning of the 6th century, he founded several monasteries, including in Dol, which became the episcopal see from 555. In the 9th century Nominoë, the Comte de Vannes, was recognized by Charles the Bald as "ducatus ipsius gentis" of the Bretons and crowned in Dol. Since then, the city has long been known as the "capital of Brittany". Fame and significance are today's past. The historic buildings in the center of the town bear witness to this, especially the preserved medieval merchant and artisan houses in the Grande Rue des Stuarts and, of course, the mighty cathedral, whose name is Samson. Six days a week, Dol is a quiet little town, only on Saturdays, on the day of the weekly market, there is something going on here.
