A beautiful path along a branch of the Hase River. The path is used by many cyclists, so it's not quite as pleasant for pedestrians, but it's wide enough for everyone to have space. Definitely a worthwhile stretch from Quakenbrück.

Through renaturation measures and the removal of an old weir, a habitat for kingfishers has been created here, and fish can now migrate up the Hase. It rushes merrily down here, and you can watch from the bridge or several resting areas.

This neoclassical building, dating from 1818, dominates the market square. The open staircase leading directly to the upper floor and the war memorial in front of the town hall are particularly worth seeing. https://artland-regional.de/altstadt-von-quakenbrueck/

The market square, with the Europa fountain (the "Europe with the bull") created in 1990 as its center, is now the forum for numerous events, such as the weekly market every Friday. The paving symbolically contains the seven arms of the river Hase, which were crucial for the settlement of Quakenbrück. The rays run towards the fountain in the middle. From the market square we can see the three founding cells of the city. On the east side is the Catholic St. Mary's Church, on the left side of which the castle hill rises. The castle guards defended the city from this center. This was practiced with knightly games on today's market square. The castle tower from the 13th century (on the right behind the church), which was no longer used for defense, was the first church tower around 1700. On the other side is the mighty baroque spire of the Protestant St. Sylvester Church. The town hall represents the civic founding cell of the town. Only gradually were the citizens able to assert themselves against the noble castle guards and establish their own administration. The war memorial in front of the town hall commemorates a later time, namely the founding of the German Empire in 1871. https://www.artland.de/portal/seiten/poggenpad-900000243-31440.html

The Deichhase in Quakenbrück is a popular destination for hikes and walks. It offers quiet and scenic paths along the river Hase. The area is ideal for nature lovers and offers numerous opportunities to enjoy the beauty of the landscape. The Deichhase is also a popular place for anglers. Here you can catch various species of fish such as perch and roach. Good luck!

The Hohe Pforte (High Gate) in Quakenbrück is the only surviving city gate in the city. It was built in 1485 and originally served as one of five gates providing access to the city. The Hohe Pforte (High Gate) was the northern exit and was built on wooden piles with rubble stone. The gate, with its Baroque bell tower, has four floors, with the lowest floor being an open passageway. The original Romanesque basket arches were replaced in the mid-19th century with taller Gothic pointed arches to accommodate larger vehicles. The gate has a fascinating history, having also served as a prison for quarrelsome women and as a city jail. The building was extensively renovated in 1999. https://www.osnabruecker-land.de/erlebnisse/hohe-pforte-historisches-stadttor

The quaint bronze sculpture "The Poor Tax Citizen" is aptly located in front of the tax office in Quakenbrück. The old "Prussian District Court", which now houses the tax office, is in the neo-renaissance style. This sculpture was created by Hans-Gerd Ruwe and shows a citizen with empty pockets who is obviously suffering under the burden of taxes. His dog sits at his feet with its head bowed. The sculpture is a striking landmark and a popular photo motif in Quakenbrück. https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hans_Gerd_Ruwe
