we are now happy to be able to drive along the Canal du Nivernais. It is more entertaining here than the part we drove along the Loire. Here too, the place names are mounted upside down to protest. Almost 10,000 signs were turned upside down at town entrances in France at the time to symbolize the situation.

While this bridge allows you to cross the Aron River with a beautiful view of the river, when you look up you cannot ignore the statue of Notre-Dame du Nivernais which dominates from its abutment in the center of the city.

parish church dating from the 11th – 12th centuries. The church is named after Saint Martin. It is built on a cruciform plan, and finished with a semi-circular apse, vaulted in the form of a furnace and pierced by three arched windows. The Windows are arched and narrow on the old parts, it has two Gothic windows, with remains of stained glass. Its door dates from the 16th century in the form of a basket handle, garnished with a round molding. On the bell tower a small slate spire. The Saint Martin de Druy Parigny church is one of the oldest in the department. The Church of Druy Parigny was built at the end of the 11th century. Its Gothic Nave dates from the 14th century. A small bell tower rises above the transept, its spire and the four sides of the bell tower are covered with slate like the entire building. The transept and the first part of the nave are barrel vaulted. The west part of the nave was raised. A fairly recent mural depicts Saint Martin sharing his cloak. The 16th century basket-handle door is decorated with a round molding. A northern bay of the nave disappeared after the revolution with a grisaille medallion of Saint Anne dating from the 16th century.
