With the patronage of "John the Baptist", this parish has chosen a saint who is considered a forerunner of Jesus Christ. In Christian theology, he is the voice of the voice in the desert prophesied in the Old Testament book of Isaiah: "A voice calls out: In the desert prepare the way for the Lord, make straight in the desert a highway for our God!" (Luther Bible). John is the son of Zechariah and Elizabeth, who was visited by the Mother of God Mary when she learned from the Archangel Gabriel that she herself was to give birth to Jesus Christ, and her - until then childless - relative was still pregnant in old age. The feast day of Saint Jean Baptist in the calendar of saints is June 24th.

The Saint-Jean-Baptiste church in Cortevaix is a reconstruction project by an architect from Chalon, unanimously adopted by the municipal council and the factory council, and completed in 1863.

It was built in the 15th century after the destruction of a first castle on the orders of the King of France, who belonged to the Mâcon region, and who was fighting against the Duke of Burgundy. Located on the hillside, between two hamlets, it is a castle whose buildings are grouped together and form a quadrilateral around a central courtyard. The entrance is framed by two round towers pierced by archers, and was formerly equipped with a drawbridge. It will serve as a hotel, the guest rooms are almost finished.

Friendly and pretty, fairly rolling hill apart from a few slightly higher percentages at the start, decent surface overall, and little traffic. It allows you to avoid the dangerous departmental road to go west from Cluny.

Clear point of view over the whole region. It climbs nicely no matter which side you take, but it's worth it. The descent to St-Bonnet by small road is pretty.

An essential point of view. The Butte de Suin rises to 593 meters. A path leads to the statue of the Virgin where there is an orientation table. From there, a magnificent circular panorama is revealed. We can see the Charolais to the west, Mont Saint-Vincent and Montceau-les-Mines to the north-west, the Chalonnaise region to the north-east, the Clunysois to the east, Mont Saint-Cyr and the foothills of Beaujolais South. The mound housed a fortified site from the Celtic period until the 16th century.

On the Butte de Suin you have a wonderful panoramic view over the country. Easy to reach by car (A smaller parking lot at the restaurant, a big something behind). At the observation deck is an information board, so you can assign the individual hills. Furthermore, a generous green area invites you to camp. On an information board four trails are described, from 2 to 15 kilometers in length. We made the S2 with 5 kilometers, nice, but the majority is on tarmac.
