Lützelhardt Castle was closed due to the risk of rockfall starting in January 2026. As I see it, nothing will change. Like everywhere else, there's a lack of funds, and it's not the only castle in the Northern Vosges Mountains that needs renovation. In this case, it's also located in a protected natural forest area where any intervention is prohibited. My fear is that nothing more will be done and it will fall into complete ruin. It's my favorite castle, and it breaks my heart.

And every bunker had a squat toilet.

Absolutely beautiful! When we were there, the area was wonderfully empty.

A really crazy rock formation where the roof rests on narrow pillars.

The rock is located approximately 500 meters southeast of the southern summit, on the French side of the Schlossberg with the Hohenburg Castle. The mountain is located directly on the German-French border in the Wasgau mountain range, the French part of which is known there as the Northern Vosges. A mountain ridge runs from the southern summit over the Löwenstein to the rock.

An extraordinary place. A relic from times once thought to be bygone, but unfortunately, reality teaches us otherwise.
