The Great Stables of the Château de Chantilly, built in the 18th century by Louis-Henri de Bourbon, Prince of Condé, are among the most majestic in the world. A masterpiece of classical architecture by Jean Aubert, they have housed the Living Museum of the Horse, dedicated to equestrian art, since 1982. This site has been owned by the Institut de France since 1886.

Chantilly is not only known for its "top-notch" horse racing, but also for its royal imperial châteaux, its racecourse, and its reputation as the capital of horses! It is the largest training center in Europe. Chantilly is known for the quality of its training facilities. The racecourse's historic grandstands were built in 1881, and there are numerous stables and training centers. More than 3,000 racehorses are trained daily in Chantilly and the surrounding area. Surrounded by beautiful forests and directly opposite the magnificent château.

40.2 km long, the river has its source in Nanteuil-le-Haudouin (Oise), and flows from east to west. It waters the town of Senlis, as well as the park of the Château de Chantilly where it is channeled, and flows into the Oise at Gouvieux, on the edge of Villers-sous-Saint-Leu, at an altitude of 30 m. The Manse pavilion, built in 1678 by the Prince of Condé, houses the machine for playing the big waters. From May to October The Pavilion is open from Tuesday to Sunday From November to April, the Pavilion is open Tuesday to Friday and the first weekend of the month. Closed on Monday, May 1, December 24 and 25 and January. Free visit from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. (last entry at 5 p.m.) with or without reservation.

From Senlis, a lovely bike ride into the surrounding area (approx. 8 km) on asphalt, forest and field paths will quickly take you directly to the castle. Bicycles and dogs are not allowed on the castle grounds. However, you can cycle along the road and admire the castle. The town is also inviting and there are opportunities to cycle past the race track and through the park.

Renowned for its stables, the Château de Chantilly is also in itself an important monument to the history of France. Adjoining the town, it offers a superb setting for walking.
