7월 12, 2025, The End of the West Highland Way – Walker Statue
The northern end of the West Highland Way national trail is at the end of the high street in Fort William. The trail stretches 96 miles (154 Km) from Milngavie to Fort William. The statue “Man with Sore Feet” was made by David Annand and has marked the end since 2010. The West Highland Way Race normally ends at the leisure centre or the Nevis Centre.

NEPTUNE would never have dreamed that he would become the - albeit unofficial - namesake of a building in the Scottish Highlands. After all, he actually comes from somewhere else entirely, namely the Mediterranean. His name stands for the pre-Christian myths of antiquity, of which the numerous Greek and Roman deities in particular have been preserved in the collective memory of humanity - at least in Europe. However, the fact that a water structure with the eight locks found here bears his name "Neptune's Staircase" is entirely justified: In Roman mythology, NEPTUNE is the god of the sea, and in Greek mythology his counterpart is POSEIDON.

From half way up Cow Hill, which is not a great height, you have nice fleeting views south east of the looming impressive bulk of Ben Nevis through the treeline. The paths hereabouts are great too, and it's great to be able have a nice hike through some woodlands too.

So the castle was not visitebel in may 2022…….and now in august 2024 its still not to be visited due to repairs…….what a blame for the Scottish heritage or what may left off it!!

Cow Hill offers great views of Fort William and Loch Lochy. On the way up and down you pass through different vegetation: forest, willow bushes and heath.

12월 24, 2023, Neptune's Staircase Locks
Situated in the picturesque village of Banavie, just four miles north of Fort William, is overlooked by the magnificent Ben Nevis and is home to the impressive Neptune’s Staircase. This amazing feat of engineering raises the canal by 19m (62ft) over a quarter of a mile of continuous masonry and takes around 90 minutes for a boat to travel up or down the locks. Built by Thomas Telford between 1803 and 1822, it is the longest staircase lock in Scotland. The system was originally hand-powered but has been converted to hydraulic operation.

Inverlochy Castle was built by the ‘Red’ Comyns, lords of Badenoch and Lochaber. The Comyns dominated northern Scotland in the 1200s, and were key supporters of King John Balliol, earning the enmity of Robert the Bruce. After seizing the throne in 1306, Bruce made the destruction of the Comyns a priority, and ruthlessly set about overthrowing them. Much of what we see at Inverlochy Castle today was built by the Comyns. It’s a formidable fortress, which has survived remarkably well. Few castles from the 1200s survive unaltered in Scotland today, and Inverlochy is one of the most complete.
