Where this striking rock is first seen in its full size, serpentines begin leading downwards. I skipped this because it was late and instead climbed the opposite "peak" (climbing in under 1 minute). From up there you have exactly the same view as in the photo.

Please do not encourage others to camp there too. It is forbidden and nature suffers as a result. There is rubbish from campers everywhere and there are plenty of other places where you can camp, just not here! leave your tent at home or in the car. Berggasthaus Staubern Coziness high up on the ridge. High above the St. Gallen Rhine Valley, on the eastern ridge of the Alpstein, stands the Berggasthaus Staubern at 1751 m above sea level. The overwhelming view overlooking four countries is surrounded by intact mountain flora. The cuisine is characterized by selected regional specialties, with particular emphasis on seasonal offerings such as the extensive game buffet in autumn. The Staubern stands for innovation and a conscious approach to nature. The cable car runs every 20 minutes (xx:00 / xx:20 / xx:40) on the hour in high season for groups of 3 or more people. In case of large crowds, it runs continuously (every 8 minutes). Berggasthaus Staubern High above the St. Gallen Rhine Valley, on the eastern ridge of the Alpstein, above Frümsen, stands the Berggasthaus Staubern at 1751 m above sea level. The overwhelming view overlooking four countries (CH - FL - AT - D) is surrounded by intact mountain flora. The panorama on the Stauberngrat is unique in its diversity. On the one hand, the view stretches far across the Rhine Valley to Lake Constance and numerous peaks from nearby countries are within sight.
