Grabser Mühlbach History of the Grabser Mühlbach It is not yet known when the Grabser Mühlbach was created and who built it. However, we know that this commercial canal was of great economic importance for the village of Grabs in the 19th century. In order to jointly regulate the maintenance and use of the Mühlbach, the water rights holders came together to form the waterworks corporation in 1897. In 2023 the cooperation celebrated its 125th anniversary. The importance of the Grabser Mühlbach for the entire population is reflected in the poem written by the Grabser work teacher and poet Katharina Vetsch (1858 - 1938). Grabser Mühlbach The Grabser Mühlbach is an artificially created commercial stream. With its diverse use over a length of 1.7 km and the number of facilities that are still preserved, it is unique in Switzerland. At the time of its maximum use, over 20 different companies benefited from this stream. Its water was the driving force for sawmills, mills, blacksmiths and other commercial enterprises. Drinking and fire-fighting water was also taken from the Mühlbach and it was used to clean laundry and sheep's wool. Since 1927, the water has also been used to generate electricity. In the meantime, some companies have been closed or electrified. However, several interesting witnesses to this early industrial era still exist.
