Great views of many cantons

After a steep climb from Ziegelbrücke, you come through the Alp to the ridge to Ferderi- and Plättlispitz, with fascinating views of the Nagelflufkette.

After an ascent of about 800 m from Ziegelbrücke you will find an idyllic place to rest with great views.

07_2025, the start of the tour to Federispitz is quite steep from here. Currently, the ground is very rutted and unstable due to logging. Going downhill is not recommended, especially in wet conditions.

The Speer via ferrata is rated B/C. It leads to the highest conglomerate or Nagelfluh mountain in Europe, the Speer. From the viewing platform there, you have a fantastic panoramic view. However, it's also quite crowded here, as an easy hiking trail leads up from the southeast. We found the via ferrata easier than advertised, and many Swiss climb it without safety equipment, which is also quite doable. Federihütte is a cozy cabin located at 1,375 meters above sea level near Schänis in the canton of St. Gallen, Switzerland. It offers panoramic views of Lake Zurich, the surrounding area and the Glarus Alps. The cabin is an ideal starting point for hikes to the Federispitz (1,865 m), known for its beautiful views of the region. The trail to the Federihütte is considered challenging and takes about 5 hours to complete. The property is managed by the Federiclub Schänis, which warmly welcomes guests during the hiking season, generally from May to October. During your stay, please respect the natural environment, use limited resources such as water and electricity sparingly, and keep dogs on a leash and avoid access to sleeping areas. The Federihütte is an ideal destination for mountain lovers looking for tranquility and breathtaking scenery.
