The old town of Sempach still has two old city gates, although this is the more striking one.

The construction history of the Lucerne Gate remains largely obscure. However, it can be assumed that the tower-like gate was not part of the original city fortifications. Originally (13th century), the gate was probably constructed from ashlars and approximately 7.5 meters high, upon which the central tower was later built. It was divided by ceilings, accessed via stairs, and had a pent roof. The latter was replaced by a pyramid roof in the first half of the 17th century. Even later, in the late 18th and early 20th centuries, the wall enclosing the tower on the north side was added, along with the facade paintings. Sempach still has two city gates. The beautiful Lucerne Gate is one of them. Unfortunately, its history is largely unknown. The lower "solid" third is older. The upper tower was built later.

The idyllic pond is often covered with water lilies and is a popular local recreation area for good reason. There is a barbecue area with seating, a toilet and shelter nearby.

And even later, in the late 18th century and early 20th century, the wall that closes off the tower on the north side was installed and the facade was painted. Sempach experienced its last battle in 1386. The Swiss Confederation won against the Habsburgs and consolidated their alliance.

The Steinibühlweiher is located at an altitude of 559 m above sea level and is an artificially created reservoir.

Pretty little town with a historic center. – Of course, particularly important for Swiss people: the Battle of Sempach, where the Austrians were defeated.
