This place, marked by the Lag da Pigniu and its impressive waterfall, announces the beginning of the Panixertal, a side valley of the Anterior Rhine. A wonder of nature that can serve as a hiking destination.

The dam wall of the Lag da Pigniu - or Panixersee - is 270 meters long and was built between 1980 and 1990. In 1999, the artist Martin Valär from the Engadin used the large concrete surface as a canvas. He painted a painting on the wall that was almost 200 meters long and around 30 meters high. The subject: the crossing of the Panixer Pass by the Russian army in October 1799. Unfortunately, the weather has taken its toll on the paint, so that the painting has now faded considerably.

Little by little you wind your way up the road to Cuolm Sura. If you need refreshment, you can take a break at the mountain inn at an altitude of 1,616 meters. The view can be enjoyed particularly beautifully on the large sun terrace.

Please note the driving ban on the other side - grazing animals (and not worth it anyway).

Valata lies below Piz Mundaun and thus in the central Surselva. Here you will find scattered farms, wide meadows and fantastic views.

Affeier is a district of the municipality of Obersaxen Mundaun. Walser German is spoken here. The young Rhine flows at the foot of the steep slope. Although tourism has now arrived here, traditional agriculture still plays a major role.
