Probably one of the most visited peaks in Switzerland by hikers. Every summer, entire tribes migrate from the Schynige Platte to the Grindelwald - First mountain station, crossing the Faulhorn summit. Built in 1832 on its southern slope, the hotel and its outbuildings have seen sunrise lovers pass by every year. The summit offers a relatively unobstructed view. It has a grassy southern flank as well as a steep and rocky northern slope and overall presents the image of a rather monotonous mountain.

🌄🏔️ Hike to the Hengst (2,092 m) in the Schrattenfluh - Switzerland's karst paradise: The hike to the Hengst begins in Sörenberg, either at the Salwideli mountain inn or at Alp Schlund. From there, a marked mountain path leads over steep karren fields and bizarre rock formations to the summit of the Hengst. The route is moderately demanding, so surefootedness and a head for heights are required. 🧗‍♂️ The ascent takes about 4-5 hours for the round trip, and during the hike you can enjoy impressive views of the Bernese Alps and the Mittelland. The unique karst landscapes are particularly fascinating, with their bizarre rocks and karren fields offering ideal photo opportunities. 📸 A magnificent panoramic view awaits you at the summit, and with a bit of luck you might even spot ibexes in the area. 🦅🌸 The best time for this hike is from June to October when the trails are free of snow and dry. The via ferrata on the Schwarzhorn offers fantastic views when the weather is good. The usual via ferrata equipment is necessary. The descent via the normal route is likely to be difficult in wet weather.

A hike around the donkey is recommended, but very time-consuming. Plan enough breaks. There are free-roaming cows on the mountain slopes that like to block the way. Cow dunk is a way of decorating here and there!
