A truly impressive church, beautifully situated and with an interesting historical background

The church was built between 1934 and 1939, in response to the Saar referendum, for the French-Leidingers, who had previously attended St. Remigius on the German side. The reasons for its construction alone make the Church of St. Jeanne d'Arc an extraordinary historical monument. It exemplifies the rare type of modern church building, whose architecture was influenced by the waning of Expressionism. Why this exclusively urban style adorns a building in the countryside will remain a mystery. Situated high on a slope above the village, the church, with its reinforced concrete skeleton construction, is an architectural masterpiece. A perfect fusion of modern design and landscape, it overlooks the valley, steeped in history despite its relatively young age.

At the top, on the edge of a hillside, the German parish church of St. Remigius impresses with its onion dome, atypical for the region. The dome dates from 1742, the lower part from 1550. Like the first church built around 1030, the present parish church served as the focal point for the villages of Leidingen, Heiningen, Sermlingen, Schrecklingen, and Wölfingen. Its nave is a simple hall with three window axes and a narrow, three-sided chancel. The older tower, added to the west side of the nave, gives the church an asymmetrical and interesting appearance.

The Church of St. Joan of Arc in Leidingen is a Catholic church named after the French national heroine Joan of Arc.
