The climb is easy to manage, even with athletic shoes and without any alpine experience. It's best to allow at least four hours for the outward journey (due to the steep, long trail, the many photos of the magnificent view, and a chat with the shepherd). There's no shade along the entire route (2 liters of water per person!). Strong winds at altitude (warm clothes!). ...

Wear comfortable casual clothes and regular sports shoes. Don’t forget a hat to protect yourself from the sun, and apply sunscreen before you start. Take your time, enjoy the surroundings, and don’t rush the route 😉

Great welcome at the refuge due to heavy squall before heading back down. A short stop turned into a slice of life lasting several hours and unusual encounters.

Mont Chiran is a high mountain peak at an altitude of 1,905 m (6,250 ft) above sea level, located in the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence department in southern France. Located in the Verdon Prealps, in the heart of the Verdon Regional Nature Park, the challenging path to the summit is narrow and unpaved. At the top of the Chiran there is a mountain sanctuary and a former astronomical observatory (Observatoire du Mont Chiran) built by the French National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS) in 1974.
