A simply stunning view of Auxerre and its magnificent cathedral, as well as the Vonne River with its many boats, and Auxerre with everything your heart desires. Plenty of places to rest and, of course, all sorts of restaurants.

Tacot rest area on the edge of the cycle path. There is a picnic table, and a nice grassy area sheltered from the wind by a wall. Enclosed dancing donkeys are just a few metres further.

The market is really great

Impressive cathedral that dominates the cityscape of Auxerre together with the Abbaye Saint-Germain. You can visit the cathedral for free, which you should definitely do. The sight of these incredibly high Gothic vaults is a lasting experience. If you want to visit the crypt, you have to pay an entrance fee of 3.50 euros. The crypt was built between 1023 and 1035 and dates from the Romanesque cathedral, which was destroyed in 1215. The current cathedral was built on the site of the old Romanesque cathedral. The different construction phases stretched from the 13th century to the 16th century.

The Sainte-Reine chapel seems to have been started with the apse towards the end of the 15th century. and built in several stages until the beginning of the 17th century. On either side of the entrance arch to the apse and on the south wall of the nave, commemorative plaques recall the role of the d'Avigneau family, notably Maurice Marie d'Avigneau who restored the chapel and returned it to worship in 1952.

The Republic Square with its statue in honor of Larousse on the edge of the old city fortifications offers nice places to stop for a break.
