Between the Tempelherrenhaus (Temple House), which was largely destroyed in World War II, the Shakespeare Memorial, and the Borkenhäuschen (Borken House) in the park on the Ilm River, stretches an artificial ruin. It dates back to a time when it was customary to decorate parks in the style of an English garden with artificial ruins. The ruin was converted in 1784, at the request of Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, from an old shooting wall of the Weimar riflemen into an interesting design element of the park. The wall belonged to the shooting house next to the Liszt House and served as a bullet trap.

The Duchess Anna Amalia Library is an important research library on German literature around 1800 and preserves around a million works from the 9th to the 21st century. The historic library building with the famous Rococo Hall, which was restored after the fire in 2004, is open again and can be visited by up to 290 people every day except Mondays. On the outskirts of Weimar, at the beginning of the Weimar countryside, lies a beautiful rest area with covered seating, leading directly to Ilmpark. Taubach is home to the oldest documented mill in Thuringia, dating back to 1120, and its waterwheel has been used to generate electricity since 1991.
