At the beginning of the Lohmen Gorge, Lohmen Castle towers high up on the sandstone cliffs. Below there are some shady seating areas by the river where you can relax or have a picnic.
Lohmen Castle in Saxony has a long history. It served as a residential and hunting lodge and was of particular importance in the 18th century due to sheep breeding. After the Second World War it fell into disrepair, but was renovated thanks to the community's commitment. Since 2001 it has housed the municipal office, the library and the tourist information.

Lohmen Castle is enthroned on a rock above the Wesenitz and was first mentioned in 1524. Today's palace wing was built by the von Schönburg family and served mainly as an administrative seat and supply center for the Saxon court. In the 18th century, the castle and the associated estate were expanded.
Unfortunately, after the Second World War, some parts of the castle were removed for the dismantling of building materials, which means that the castle and the estate are only partially preserved today.
