The Banff Hoodoos at Tunnel Mountain were created over thousands of years of erosion. The formations are a rare combination of hard and soft rock. Over time, the softer sediment is eroded away, leaving behind these needle- or tower-like natural structures.
Hoodoos Viewpoint is located near Tunnel Mountain Road. From the top you can see the Hoodoos on the hillside and in the valley. There is no official trail down to the Hoodoos.

The unnatural-looking "hoodoos" are rock formations that have naturally evolved through erosion of water and wind over millennia. Hoodoo is an African term that has to do with witchcraft. When the outermost soft rock is eroded away, a hard core or soft core with a protective hard cover remains, the hoodoos. They continue to change shape through erosion.
