According to a folk legend lived "in the distant past" a giant on the Reinsburg and another giant on the Singer mountain. Both giants lived in a permanent feud. Smaller beings moved the giants from one place to the next, and according to legend, they argued one day just for a pastime: The giant on the Reinsburg threw a mighty hammer to Singer mountain, but missed his target and finally met the point at which later the Hammersfeld was created. Angrily, the giant threw a large lump of Schmer (either lard or mud) in the direction of Reinsburg on the Singer mountain, but also missed his target and hit the place where later Schmerfeld was founded (Wikipedia).
