      After 106.6 km, the Erft flows into the Rhine near Grimlinghausen in a very unspectacular and very exciting way. The Erft rises in the Ahr Mountains in the Euskirchen district at an altitude of 527 m above sea level. NN and flows out at 31 m above sea level. NN, that's about 500 m difference in altitude and three district towns that the Erft has to overcome on its way to the mouth. The river on its way is densely vegetated and provides a habitat for many animals and birds. The vegetation is lush and diverse. People have a lot of fun paddling and fishing. Many works of art are placed on the paths along the river. Over the course of many years, the earth was straightened out and later renatured again in order to avoid flooding.
