In the summer of 1886 Heinrich Natter went on a mountain hike with Prince Hanau. Then they met miners who wanted to bring a large rock crystal that had just broken out of the mountain into the valley. Natter bought the wonderful 60 kg stone and brought it to Gmunden. The crystal stimulated the artist's imagination. He saw gnomes in the interior of the mountain doing their hard work, how they brought the load to the light of day and this is how this figure of the "Gnome with the crystal" was created. The city received the sculpture "on loan" from the heirs in 1953 and placed it on a pedestal in the middle of the fountain. On September 1, 1961, the city of Gmunden then acquired the crystal from Michael Natter-Hornbostel. The fountain is an often photographed subject.

In the small spa park on the promenade you come across the fountain with a nice story and a really impressive rock crystal.
