The listed Prinzeßhof Park, whose roots date back to the 16th century, together with the district museum and the coach house form an architectural and garden-historical unity.

In 1964, the district museum was allocated some rooms in the Prinzesshof and was gradually integrated into the building. A complete renovation of the house took place from 1984 onwards. The district museum is dedicated to the history of the Steinburg district in various showrooms. The Prinzesshof represents part of the story and in some rooms, for example in the so-called Biedermeier room, the living culture of bygone times is presented. The Fehrs room presents the estate of the Low German poet Johann Hinrich Fehrs. Another focus is the cement industry (an important branch of industry formerly in Itzehoe - see Planet Alsen - and today in neighboring Lägerdorf). In addition, there are special exhibitions on changing topics in the museum.

The Prinesshofpark adjacent to the district museum was redesigned between 2006 and 2008. In the course of this renovation, three sculptures made of Corten steel were erected. The design comes from Anthony Newsom and shows the namesake of the park. The Prinzesshofpark is an inner-city green area in Itzehoe at the so-called Prinzesshof, which today houses the district museum. The Prinzesshof has been the residence of nobles and abbesses of the Itzehoe monastery since the 16th century. The core area of today's park was the garden belonging to the Prinzesshof, which is now a listed building.

The city of Itzehoe commissioned us with the preparation of a monument conservation report for the restoration. The Prinzesshofpark should be adapted to the current requirements for an inner-city green area and its usability, quality of stay and plant experience improved, taking into account monument conservation issues. The measures should also increase social control in the park.
