The hike to Burg Castle is short and challenging, climbing at a gradient of 16 to 19 percent, but the reward is more than worth it. The view of the Lower Castle and Burg Castle is magnificent. And the waffles are highly recommended.

Burg Castle in Solingen is a cultural center, adventure site, and landmark.

Those who take Germany's oldest double chairlift from the Unterburg district to

Oberburg to reach the castle at the top will know, after overcoming a height of 91 meters, what a treasure awaits them.

The scenery at the mountaintop is breathtaking. The view falls upon the tranquil Wupper River

and sweeps over the expansive hills and valleys in the surrounding area.

It's no wonder that Adolf II of Berg chose this place as his family's ancestral home around 1130.

But Burg Castle is worth a visit not only for its unique panorama and the remarkable history of its builders – including Count Adolf V of Berg, who elevated Düsseldorf to city status. Today, the complex is a landmark of the Bergisches Land region, a real tourist magnet, and a diverse place of experience. The Bergisches Museum is housed within the magnificent walls of the restored fortress, which was known as Neuenberge Castle until the 15th century, fell into ruin between the 17th and 19th centuries, and was finally rebuilt in the historical style starting in 1890 by a society and many volunteers. You can learn more about the history of the castle and exhibits such as historical weapons, large murals, and silver trophies on a guided tour, using your mobile phone, or tablet.

Castle Castle is always worth a visit. We (family with two children, 3 and 8 years) have participated in a guided tour for the first time. The entrance incl. Guided tour was only 14 € for the whole family. The tour took about 45 minutes and was entertaining and entertaining for both adults and children. The highlight for the children was certainly to be able to put on a real knight's helmet or a chain mail in the end.

Burg Castle towers 110 meters high above the Wupper, and the defiant keep can be seen from far away. Inside there are massive walls, huge archways, narrow streets, narrow courtyards and sunny terraces. The origins go back to the 12th century: In the Middle Ages, the castle was the seat of the Counts of Berg, the scene of courtly festivals and a place of great politics. Today it is one of the most popular excursion destinations in the region. Anyone who comes here takes a journey back in time to the Middle Ages - swords and armor included. History comes to life here and you get an impression of what it used to be like.
The view from above, over the valleys and heights of the Wupperberge, into the vastness of the Bergisches Land is simply fantastic. Restaurants in the immediate vicinity invite you to take a leisurely break.

There are three Count Engelbert von Burg, the second depicted here (1185-1225) made a name for himself in his place of birth by having the castle expanded in a representative way. In addition to his high and influential position as Archbishop of Cologne, he also served the Staufer Emperor Friedrich II as Reich Administrator.
The life-size equestrian statue stands in the courtyard on an approx. 2 m high stone plinth.
