At the beginning of the 18th century, the tower of the Kreuztor (Cross Gate) was shortened by one story and topped with a Baroque gable so that its lines would match the style of the buildings in the adjacent Hofgarten (Court Garden).
Besides the Kreuztor, three other city gates still exist today, which are also the oldest in Brixen: the Säbener Tor (Säben Gate), the Michaelstor (Michael's Gate), the Kreuzgangtor (Cloister Gate), and the Kreuztor (Cross Gate), also known as the Sonnentor (Sun Gate). These gates were still closed after nightfall at the beginning of the 18th century.

The sun gate forms the western city gate of Brixen's old town. If you step through it, you find yourself in a tangle of old streets. From the city gate there is a small passage into the courtyard garden.
