It was founded in 1345 by a noblewoman from Gaia, Maria Mendes Patite, who handed it over to the Order of St. Dominics. In the 17th century, with the flooding of the Duero River, the Monastery underwent profound transformations and ended up becoming extinct in 1834, giving rise to the construction, in the second half of the 17th century, of a new temple. With a unique architecture, the Coro Alto stands out inside, with an imposing ceiling decorated with oil paintings. Its recovery has uncovered a large number of pieces of sacred art, such as a sculpture of the crucified Christ dating from the 14th century, and a space that hosts exhibitions and conferences.
