The lake belongs to a superficial run-off area, but feeds together with the two northern neighboring lakes, Mittelsee and (southern) Langer See, through underground natural drains, the Fredersdorfer Mühlenfließ, which originates in the southernmost part of the Gamengrund. The approximately two-kilometer-long Gamensee is the largest and deepest channel lake on the Gamengrund. It can be used both as a swimming lake and as fishing waters.
