According to legend, the bishop of Bamberg did not want to give the citizens a place to build a town hall. That is why the Bamberg piles rammed into the Regnitz and created an artificial island on which they built the town hall.

Particularly noticeable are the frescoes, which also come into their own at night thanks to the lighting.

View of the bridge town hall in Bamberg. The old town hall is one of the most impressive buildings in Bamberg, a symbol of the rulership boundary between the episcopal Bamberg and the bourgeois city center. The façade paintings with figurative elements are particularly beautiful - and the view of the Mühlenviertel on the left and Little Venice on the right (if you move towards the old town). And now another hidden object game: who can find the woman with the four breasts? :-)

The old town hall is surrounded by fascinating architecture with wonderful façade painting, in the middle of a small island and is surrounded on both sides by the Regnitz.

The old town hall in the middle of the Regnitz on the island is rightly the symbol of the city. Wonderfully preserved, it shows baroque architecture and a really well designed facade.

The Obere Brücke is probably the oldest and most original that was built over the Regnitz. It connects the island city with the mountain city.

The old town hall is one of the most original town halls in Germany. It was built on "neutral" ground with imaginative architecture in the middle of the Regnitz as the border of the bourgeois island town and the spiritual centers. It was first mentioned in 1386. The Upper Bridge is probably the oldest bridge in Bamberg. It was originally the only bridge over the left arm of the Regnitz.

A tram operated in Bamberg from 1897 to 1922, with a line going over the Obere Brücke directly through the old town hall.

Probably the most famous and impressive building in Bamberg. Of course, it is also accordingly well attended.

The façade paintings from the year 1755, originally created by Johann Anwander, are very beautiful. In the years 1959 to 1962 a new lapping was done by Anton Greiner.

Old Town Hall, cathedral, special cellars, alleys, hidden statues, stories of the night watchmen ... and and and. Here a visit with open eyes and ears is worthwhile. Running the city needs conditioning, but it is rewarded.

Undoubtedly the Old Town Hall is one of the most famous sights and most popular photo opportunities in Bamberg. If you are taking part in a city tour or city tour in Bamberg for the first time, you will probably wonder why the town hall was built above a river. The citizens of Bamberg or the staff of the tourist office tell in response to this legitimate question a quite believable sounding legend: When the Bamberg citizens long ago wanted to build a town hall, they met with the Bamberg bishop with their desire on deaf ears. Allegedly, there is no suitable place in the city to build such a building. But the proud citizens of Bamberg could not be so easily dismissed. They rammed strong piles into the river Regnitz and created an artificial island in the middle of the river, on which the town hall was built afterwards. This location is at the same time a remarkable symbol of the power relations at that time: The city hall stands exactly on the old dividing line between episcopally characterized mountain town and bourgeois

From the lower mill bridge you have a fantastic view. It is architecturally very special and there are many facade paintings to admire. 👍

A real eye-catcher among the sights in Bamberg is without a doubt the old town hall, which is enthroned as a picturesque half-timbered building on an island in the middle of the Regnitz. Bamberg's old town with its many well-preserved houses and cobblestone streets invites you to stroll and linger.

The Old Town Hall was first mentioned in 1387, redesigned between 1461 and 1467 and is part of Bamberg's UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the most important buildings that characterize the historic city center. It is located between the mountain and island towns in the left arm of the Regnitz and was therefore built into the Regnitz. Very easy to see from the bridge.

This town hall is in the middle of the river, which should be unique in Germany. The first thing that catches the eye on the facade of the bridge tower are the rococo balconies and above them a coat of arms that points to one of the last prince-bishops of Bamberg. This is Franz Konrad Graf von Stadion and Thannhausen, who resided there until 1757. The prince-bishop's coat of arms used to indicate whose dominion you were entering after passing through the town hall. In the long building of the old town hall there is a rococo hall on the first floor, which is used for receptions by the city of Bamberg. The porcelain collection Ludwig is housed as a permanent exhibition on the ground floor. After passing through the town hall, a look back shows the coat of arms with the city knight St. George, which is attached as a copy to the bridge tower on the mountain side.

The showpiece of the old town hall is the 18th century redesigned rococo hall in the northern part of the upper floor. In 1745 Franz Jakob Vogel (1698–1752) made the stucco work on the ceiling. In 1750 the hall received its carvings, the work of Joseph Bonaventura Mutschele, a sculptor from Augsburg (1728–1778/1783). Joseph Fröschel did the carpentry work and Anton Dambacher did the gilding. The sun can be seen in a long quatrefoil in the middle of the ceiling. There is a putto in each corner. The allegory symbolically shows water, fire, air and earth. On the side walls are oil paintings created by Johann Anwander. representing the four basic virtues of justice, prudence, moderation and fortitude through examples from the Old Testament. I suppose they were meant to be a moral admonition to the councillors. The rococo painter also created the oil paintings above the doors. Portraits of Elector Maximilian IV Joseph (first king of the Kingdom of Bavaria from 1806) and of Bamberg's last prince-bishop, Franz Freiherr von Buseck, hang on the north wall. He had to abdicate in 1802 because of the secularization in Bavaria. In 1898 a faience ceramic oven with a relief of the city knight was installed. Above the front door of the antechamber is a 15th-century wooden panel in a frame with gilded rocaille motifs. Then a saying from the Sachsenspiegel by Eike von Repgow: "One man red/half a red man/sol you interrogate bed". Should say that in a dispute, both sides must always be heard.
