The Old Garden is a central, representative square in Schwerin, which is surrounded by magnificent buildings. It is bordered on two sides by Lake Schwerin and the Burgsee.

Both the layout of the square itself and the buildings located there and adjacent to it - Schwerin Castle, Theater, Museum, Old Palace and State Chancellery - are listed in the city of Schwerin's list of monuments.

The history of the square's use probably begins as early as the 9th century in the vicinity of the Obodrite Castle Zuarin. Over time, the use of the square changed several times until it became modern for meetings and events and as a tourist center.
