      The fountain temple is located at the intersection of the main routes in the historic Meinberg spa park. It was created in 1840–1842 based on a design by the Salzufler saltworks director Friedrich Heinrich Ludwig Gödecke, but had a wooden octagonal predecessor from 1770 in the same place. The well temple stands over a gas source, which was thought to be a water source in the 18th century. Here, however, only dry carbon dioxide (CO2) combines with the escaping water. In the well temple you can see the gas bubbles of the escaping carbon dioxide in a glass cylinder.
      The spa park was built around the spring in 1767 as a late Baroque symmetrical complex. The central north-south axis leads to the two large spa buildings Zum Stern (in the north) and Zur Rose (in the south).
