The world's only helicopter museum has been located in the listed, historic Burgmannshof on Sabléplatz since 1971. Leonardo da Vinci was already interested in aircraft that are heavier than air. His "Helix" design from 1483 became the basis for helicopter flying. The 2000 square meter exhibition with more than 50 original exhibits includes single and multi-rotor helicopters, gyroplanes and flight helicopters, many assemblies and components such as gearboxes and engines. In June 2011, after several years of planning and construction, a modern glass extension with an area of around 600 square meters was added, which shows 5 original-size helicopters and 430 miniature helicopter models.
