In 1799, the Bergvattnet chapel team was granted the right to establish their own parish. It was named Dorotea after Gustav IV Adolf's wife, Queen Fredrika Dorotea Vilhelmina av. Baden. In 1844, the church was extended and could now accommodate up to 600 people. On August 17, 1932, the church burned down. A new wooden church was built on its foundations according to designs by Evert Milles and consecrated in December 1934. The nave with a copper-covered gable roof has a tower with a lantern. Two sculptures by Carl Milles are part of the church's inventory: "The Angel" and "Paul on the Way to Damascus".
