Located at the top of Avenida dos Aliados, the Câmara Municipal is one of the largest local authority buildings in Portugal. With two wide ramps on either side of the main entrance, access to this modern neoclassical structure is easy, there is a large clock centered in the building's 70m tower, keeping time across the avenida. The famous architect from Porto, Correia da Silva, designed the Câmara Municipal and its construction began in 1920.

In the entrance area of the town hall there is an installation on both sides that clearly shows the word "Porto".

The Porto City Hall (pt. Câmara Municipal do Porto) stands at the far end of Avenida dos Aliados.

Construction began in 1920 based on plans by the architect António Correia da Silva. After a few interruptions, the building was not finally completed until 1955. It consists of six floors, a basement and two courtyards. A 70 m high tower rises up exactly in the middle of the town hall. Inside there is a carillon, which can be reached via an internal staircase consisting of 180 steps.
