This short, almost flat path through the laurel forest along the Levada do Juncal and on the edge of the Ribeiro Frio valley to the Balcãoes viewpoint gives an impression of this pristine landscape and also offers wonderful views; on the one hand down to the Atlantic and on the other side to the peaks of the central mountains.
If you buy some bird food in the village, you will have a special, magical moment when the little finches sit on your hand and pick the seeds. If you want to enjoy these moments, you should get up early and get going; "the early bird catches the chick". This viewpoint and the town of Ribeiro Fio are easy to reach, there are also restaurants and souvenir shops, so you can expect endless visitors (there are fewer parking spaces).
So hiking enthusiasts, get up early, put on your hiking boots and head out to this special highlight of nature.
