If you want to have the mountain on your own, you have the unique chance of being high up at sunrise without having to run with a flashlight in the dark, as you can reach the mountain by car.
In other ways too (except that it's a grand spectacle above the clouds), it's great to be there at sunrise:
You can hike much more beautifully on the grade (to Pico Ruivo) before all the other hikers have left, you reach Pico Ruivo before possibly hiding in the clouds around noon and you have definitely had the best hours on the mountain!

It is important to ensure that there is no chance of a thunderstorm and that the wind is below 25km / h, otherwise it will be dangerous.
The mountain is categorically given too few hours of sun - the site doesn't seem to know what people are saying here in Madeira: "If there are clouds down here, the sun always shines up there."

The Pico do Areerio is the third highest peak in Madeira and also the highest place that can be reached by car. The great mountain hiking trail PR 1 to Pico Ruivo starts from here. There is a radar station at the top of the mountain and a large snack bar directly below. If you want to hike from here, you should come as early as possible, as many tourists drive up the mountain for the view and the parking lot fills up quickly.

The Pico do Arieiro summit can easily be reached by car (quite busy during the day) and at the same time marks the starting point of a magnificent high-altitude hike to the neighboring summit Pico Ruivo ... However, this hike has it in itself and should only be started in good weather (on wind and weather often / Passages often in clouds / fog) - Absolute sure-footedness and vertigo necessary! In addition, with a height difference of almost 300m (multiple stairs !!!) A corresponding condition is required! For some of the tunnels, a flashlight is also recommended!
