Its origins date back to before 1200 and are probably due to the hermit Bonacorso who lived in these parts. Later on, several followers were added to the hermit who made it necessary to build rooms to be used as lodgings.

In the following years, in 1216 and 1239, the dioceses of Siena and Volterra formalized the community that was constituted by granting indulgences to all those who made offers to the community itself. The church, which was dedicated to Saint Lucia, dates back to 1252 and its consecration to 1267.

In the hermitage there was also a miracle, the transformation of water into wine by the prior Clemente da Osimo with a simple sign of the cross.

The hermitage was suppressed by the archdiocese of Siena in 1575, although it continued to be inhabited by some friars.

Of the Augustinian hermitage remain the wing where the chapter house was located, opened by a series of pointed arches, and the ruins of the chapel which concluded the church with a single nave. The choir, with a quadrilateral plan, still has the corbels on which the cross vault was set.
