The Düpenau crosses the artificially created rain retention basin on the site of the former "Friedrichshulde" estate. The manor house was destroyed by fire in the 1960s, and some of the estate's outbuildings are still there today.

Nature fans can expect plenty of greenery on the approximately 8 hectare site in the Düpenau lowlands and in the forest areas. Very old deciduous trees from the early days of the complex are impressive in the "Gutswald" or "Schulwald", which were planted in the 1950s.

You can experience a natural, rural atmosphere as you walk around the water.

Despite being designed by human hands, the lake and the area around the edges do not appear artificial. The landscape conservation area is looked after by the NABU. Accommodation for birds, insects, amphibians and bats is set up in the greenery along the path and on trees.
