Meerssen, June 1, 2022 - In 2022, the South Limburg village of Meerssen commemorated the 800th anniversary of a Eucharistic miracle.

The story goes that in 1222, a priest in the then village church discovered that he had forgotten to put water and wine in the chalice while celebrating Holy Mass. He then prayed to God, and reportedly, when the bread was broken, water and blood flowed from the Sacred Host.
Over the centuries, thanks to the so-called Miracle of Blood, Meerssen became a place of pilgrimage with a special devotion to the Blessed Sacrament.

Inside, the serene atmosphere is striking, with stained glass windows, a classical altar, and rich decorative details that capture the attention of visitors.

The area surrounding the basilica offers a beautiful view of the village, its green fields, and historic streets.
